Chemical composition: Both alloys are principally composed of nickel, molybdenum, and chromium, but their compositions vary slightly. Hastelloy C22 contains more chromium and less molybdenum than C276.

Corrosion Resistance: Both alloys are very resistant to a variety of corrosive environments, including oxidizing and reducing acids, chlorides, and other hostile chemicals. However, due to its higher resistance to localized corrosion, C22 is frequently favored in situations with mixed acids (such as sulfuric acid and chloride ions), whereas C276 may be preferred in severely oxidizing environments.

Weldability: Hastelloy C22 is typically thought to be easier to weld than C276. C22 has strong weldability and may be welded with a number of techniques, but C276 may necessitate more careful welding operations to retain corrosion resistance.

Temperature Range: Although both alloys can operate in high-temperature situations, Hastelloy C276 has a higher maximum working temperature than C22. C276 can tolerate temperatures of up to around 1900°F (1040°C), but C22 is normally limited to roughly 1250°F (677°C).
