Flanges are circular protruded rims, helpful for joining two pipes within the piping system.

The ‘X’ in Hastelloy X stands for nickel, chromium, iron, and molybdenum superalloy. The Hastelloy X exhibits excellent oxidation-corrosion resistance and fabricability properties in hostile environments, where the temperature rises to 2200-Degree F. This alloy immediately forms an oxide layer on first exposure to the oxidizing surroundings, thus, protecting the surfaces against rusting, cracking, and pitting.

Hastelloy X offers stability, toughness, and durability to the flanges in extreme surroundings. Also, it contains 1% silicon, which helps improve the tensile strength and elastic limit of these flanges.

In industrial premises, especially petrochemical and oil industries, we use pipes to transfer fluids (liquid or gaseous). These fluids might comprise flammable, volatile, or toxic components, which may be hazardous to health.

There are three primary types of Hastelloy X Flanges one will definitely find in industrial premises:

  • Threaded Flanges

Threaded Flanges (formerly known as screwed flanges) have threads within the bores of the flange. This internal thread enables us to connect the pipelines with matching male threads on the pipes. Threaded Flanges are easy to install. However, it is not suitable for high-pressure applications. It is available in sizes of NPS 4 or below. 

  • Socket-Weld Flanges

Generally, we use SW Flanges in small bore pipings, whose diameter is NPS 4 or smaller. It is suitable for a low-pressure application but provides robust connectivity than threaded flanges. Socket Flanges can be RF (Raised-Face) or FF (Flat Face).

  • Slip-On Flanges

Slip-On Flanges have holes in the outer diameter of the surface, along with a larger hole in the center. Technically, we design SO Flanges to fit a pipe into the inner gap of the flange. Thus, you find that their inside diameter is greater than the pipe’s outer diameter.

  • Hastelloy X Flanges can perform better to resist corrosion, oxidation, and reduction efficiently, where the temperature ranges from cryogenic to 1200-Degree C.
  • Hastelloy X is resistant to carbonization and nitriding, thus exhibiting excellent fabrication properties to these flanges in extreme environments.
  • During the heat-generating process, Hastelloy X offers high-yield tensile strength up to 755 MPa. Thus, these flanges can attain maximum load with fracturing or tempering.
  • Hastelloy X offers good malleability properties that help in hardening in both hot and cold-worked forming processes. Thus, we can quickly fabricate the flanges using soldering, welding, or forging methods.
  • Hastelloy X exhibits good thermal and electrical conductivity. Thus, the flanges can efficiently resist heat, pressure, and electric current in high-temperature areas that range from cryogenic to 2200-Degree F.
