The ‘X’ in Hastelloy X stands for nickel, chromium, iron, and molybdenum superalloy. The Hastelloy X exhibits excellent oxidation-corrosion resistance and fabricability properties in hostile environments, where the temperature rises to 2200-Degree F. This alloy immediately forms an oxide layer on first exposure to the oxidizing surroundings, thus, protecting the surfaces against rusting, cracking, and pitting.

Hastelloy X offers stability, toughness, and durability to the sheets and plates in extreme surroundings. Also, it contains 1% silicon, which helps improve the tensile strength and elastic limit of these sheets and plates.

APPLICATIONS OF HASTELLOY X SHEETS AND PLATES

In the metal market, we often use the terms ‘sheets’ and ‘plates’ interchangeably. However, they are slightly different due to their thickness.

The thickness of the sheet ranges from 0.006 inches to 0.25 inches. On the other hand, plates have a thickness of more than or equivalent to 0.25 inches.

We use rolling machines to manufacture Hastelloy Plates. Under immense pressure, we pass Hastelloy X in-between the rolls to make it thinner and longer. The ingot is preheated first to the rolling temperature and maintained into the breakdown mil. We need to repeat these steps until the thickness is reduced as per our requirements.

We can use cold-rolled or heat treatment to increase the strength and durability of the slabs. Further, we place them in a safer area to cool themselves. It helps them to develop toughness and corrosion resistance.
