Flanges are circular adapters having external or internal ridges.

These flanges are helpful to connect two different pipelines, valves, pumps, or any other piping instruments to form an overall piping system. We can attach these flanges using welding or screwing methods.

Monel k500 is technically an up-gradation of Monel 400 and inherits higher resistance against corrosion and fatigue. It is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy, with the addition of aluminum and titanium alloys, which stays ductile and tough in elevated temperature areas, ranging from cryogenic to 400-Degree F.

Monel K500 provides toughness, stability, and durability to the flanges in elevated temperature areas. Also, Monel K500 is spark resistant and non-magnetic to -200-Degree F. Thus, exhibiting good thermal and electrical conductivity in hot, cold, and seawater surroundings.


Usually, pipes are helpful to transfer gaseous or liquid fluids from one place to another. These fluids might be flammable, toxic, or highly volatile in nature. Thus, engineers use flanges to close the pipelines in a secured manner, to maintain the pressure and composition of the fluids inside the piping system.

Flanges are highly versatile. One must consider the face types of the flanges before making an ideal choice for your piping system. The face type of the flanges plays a pivotal role in the performance and durability of the flanges.

  • Flat Face: 

Like its name, the surface of these flange types is totally flat. There is no protruded ridge above its surface, making the gasket cover the full flanges.

  • Raised Face:

These flange types have a small protruded ridge above their surface from one end. The objective of the raised face flanges is to concentrate the pressure on the smaller gasket areas. Thus, increasing the pressure-containment capacities of the joints.

  • Ring-Join Face:

These face-type flanges have groove cuts into their faces. A gasket is compressed in-between the flanges and the pipes or valves to make a seal. It is the most efficient method of ensuring leak-free flange connections at high pressures.

  • Tongue and Groove:

These types of flanges must have matching grooves and raised sections. It enables them to align perfectly in given positions and provides a repository for gasket connectivity.

  • Monel k500 has approximately three times the high-yield strength of the former Monel 400, which ranges from 100ksi to 150ksi. Thus, flanges can withstand stress and pressure without permanently deforming up to 2400-Degree F.
  • Monel k500 contain 63% to 70% nickel content, with an addition of 0.25% carbon content. Hence, these flanges have inherent hardness, strength, and corrosion resistance and are certainly suitable in high-velocity sea waters.
  • Monel k500 contains higher aluminum content (2.3% to 3.15%), making them non-magnetic in nature. Thus, these flanges offer good electrical and thermal conductivity in high-temperature areas, ranging from -200 Degree F to 896-Degree F.
  • Monel k500 contains higher carbon content, which is approximately 0.25%. Thus, making the flanges coated with this alloy highly recommendable in hydrogen sulfide or sour-gas environments. 
  • To fabricate Monel k500, we can use standard welding protocols. To carry on the welding process, we recommend you use the gas-tungsten-arc process. We recommend you weld Monel k500 flanges only at annealed conditions, where the temperature ranges from 1600-Degree F to 2100-Degree F.
