These round bars help provide structural support to machinery, automobile parts, railway engines, coaches, etc. These bars are available in various sizes ranging from 10 mm to 125 mm.

Monel k500 is technically an up-gradation of Monel 400 and inherits higher resistance against corrosion and fatigue. It is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy, with the addition of aluminum and titanium alloys, which stays ductile and tough in elevated temperature areas, ranging from cryogenic to 400-Degree F.

Monel K500 provides toughness, stability, and durability to the round bars in elevated temperature areas. Also, Monel K500 is spark resistant and non-magnetic to -200-Degree F. Thus, exhibiting good thermal and electrical conductivity in hot, cold, and seawater surroundings.

The quality and performance of Monel k500 round bars depend upon three primary factors:

  • Quality of the raw materials

Based on our knowledge and expertise, we are providing you three basic steps we use to produce Monel k500 Round Bars:

Step 1: Monel Making Process

First, we need to take nickel, chromium, iron, molybdenum, and other chemical compositions of Monel k500 into a blast furnace and melt them. The resulting molted Incoloy will form as an ingot casting. 

Step 2: Primary and Secondary Monel Making Process

Usually, these Monel k500 ingots contain almost 10% of impurities like carbons, which must be eliminated. To do so, we use the Electric Ark Furnace (EAF) method. Under this method, we heat the molten iron ingot at a temperature of 1650-Degree C to remove the impurities up to maximum level and convert it into a high-grade variant.

Onwards, this refined molten iron undergoes supplementary processes, including degassing, steering, or argon bubbling to adjust itself with other Incoloy compositions.

Step 3: Casting

After finishing Step 2, the molten Monel k500 needs to cool down to form solid molds. Once cooled, we can cut them into our desired lengths depending upon the application. Further, the products are hot rolled in the Rolling Mills to achieve our desired shapes or sizes.

  • Monel k500 has approximately three times the high-yield strength of the former Monel 400, which ranges from 100ksi to 150ksi. Thus, these round bars can withstand stress and pressure without permanently deforming up to 2400-Degree F.
  • Monel k500 contains 63% to 70% nickel content, with an addition of 0.25% carbon content. Hence, these round bars have inherent hardness, strength, and corrosion resistance and are certainly suitable in high-velocity sea waters.
  • Monel k500 contains higher aluminum content (2.3% to 3.15%), making them non-magnetic in nature. Thus, these round bars offer good electrical and thermal conductivity in high-temperature areas, ranging from -200 Degree F to 896-Degree F.
  • Monel k500 contains higher carbon content, which is approximately 0.25%. Thus, making the round bars coated with this alloy highly recommendable in hydrogen sulfide or sour-gas environments. 
  • To fabricate Monel k500, we can use standard welding protocols. To carry on the welding process, we recommend you use the gas-tungsten-arc process. We recommend you weld Monel k500 round bars only at annealed conditions, where the temperature ranges from 1600-Degree F to 2100-Degree F.
