An outsider uses the terminologies ‘pipes’ and ‘tubes’ interchangeably. However, they are different!

Pipes are round-hollow cylinders helpful to transfer liquid or gaseous fluids within the piping systems. The inner diameter is technically lesser than the outer diameter of the pipeline. Usually, an engineer selects the nominal size of the pipes by roughly calculating their fluid conveying capacity.

Mathematically, we calculate the inner diameter while subtracting the outer diameter by twice the wall thickness of the pipes, given in the schedules.

On the other hand, tubes are long-hollow cylindrical rods. They are highly versatile, making them beneficial in supporting machinery appliances and pressure equipment. They are available in 4-basic shapes, namely round, square, rectangular, and oval.

They are available in numerous shapes and sizes. Their wall thickness and outer diameter have specific schedules and are measurable in inches or millimetres.

  • The high-yield tensile strength of Titanium GR5 is reasonably equivalent to that of stainless steel, which ranges from 1100 MPa to 1170 MPa. Thus, these pipes and tubes can attain maximum stress under these metric points without causing any deformations.
  • The fatigue strength of Titanium GR5 ranges from 160 MPa to 700 MPa at annealed temperature areas. Hence, these pipes and tubes can withstand the highest stress in high-pressure zones without breaking.
  • Titanium GR 5 is very flexible and has high modulus elasticity that records up to 114 GPa. Hence, these pipes and tubes can efficiently sustain vibration, heat, and pressure in high-temperature areas.
  • Titanium GR 5 has good tensile strength and helpful creep resistance up to 300-Degree C. Thus, these pipes and tubes can deform slowly over a longer period in high-temperature areas.
  • Titanium GR 5 contains a significant amount of vanadium, which amounts to 4.5% of this grade. Thus, vanadium’s corrosion-resistance properties make it ideal for these pipes and tubes to transfer gases or liquids from one place to another.
